We had a great opportunity to host a journalist from Outside Magazine , where he joined us on an adventure into the wilds of British Columbia’s West Chilcotin back country. CNN Travel joins Yoho Adventures for a unique Hiking Tours Canada in British Columbia’s remote Coast Mountains
Having a well respected journalist from Outside Magazine join us for a true back country mission in the Coast Mountains, we knew just the spot to take him and wow the pants off of him. Instead of flying right into our stunning back country base, we decide to fly in prematurely to another lake set in the Coast Mountains,where we spent the day hiking through some of British Columbia’s prettiest alpine settings.
A good full day of 9 hour’s hiking, bush crashing and making our way through the true back country, had us experiencing a slice of absolute pristine wilderness of The Charlotte Alplands. Hiking through terrain where no trails exist except for following the prints of your fellow wildlife companions; Wolf, Cariboo, Bear and Mountain Goats added to the day’s adventure and excitment of arriving to our log cabin in the true Canadian wilderness. After a beautiful day exploring some of British Columbia’s most remote and wild Coast Mountains, arriving into shelter and your own private white sand beach was a sure delight. We woke to a new blue bird sky day and took off across the calm cool waters of Wilderness Lake to make for a summit of the area’s most alluring and impressive peak- Wilderness Mountain. Standing at a tall and beautiful 2600 M above the vast Canadian Wilderness, her summit offers nothing less than an inspiring overview into what British Columbia’s raw and expansive wilderness is all about. Jagged snow capped mountains, saw tooth ridge lines, turquoise coloured glacial fed lakes, multi coloured alpine meadows, enormous glaciers, more glaciers and oh yeah, more mountains !
Journeying into the deep backcountry allowed the perfect space for a unique hiking tour in Canada
Climbing and sweating up a 1000M wilderness route, to the 1km long summit ridge of Wilderness Peak had us all in high spirits, feeling good to be alive and able to experience such a true pristine slice of Canadian backcountry and her finest. Not a soul in sight, no man made creation or object in sight, except for our far away red roofed refuge awaiting our return.
To experience time in the complete solitude of the mountains, and be able to feel that sense of wonder and awe from such expansive landscapes is just a glimpse of what we offer on our unique adventure trips, in the remote West Chilcotin Coast Mountains. Our fellow journalist, now a mate by this point in time, was struck by the beauty and true pristine wilderness he finally got to experience, after all these years spent flying over The Coast Mountains on his way home to Alaska. He mentioned to us how he was on this exploratory trip in The Cariboo Chilcotin Coast, in search of a true back country adventure and a genuine wilderness experience to get up close into the energy of the mighty Coast Mountains & Waddington Ranges. Looking to experience a Hiking Tours Canada, without having to be a mountaineer, our Coast Mountain Getaway Trip allowed him a unique opportunity to experience some of British Columbia’s best alpine hiking and pristine untouched backcountry that seldom people ever get to come close to.
We left Wilderness mountain with a happy heart and a feeling of wonder into what beauty and continual wild lands layed beyond our slice of alpine meadows and never ending ridge lines. A thought of how he could stay a few more days and explore with us the many nearby peaks , valleys and ridges was a ponder he wanted to make a reality. Alas, the stud of the sky; our trustee Canadian Beaver float plane came back in the morning, with of course a few cold brews where we saluted our new friendship and experience of Canadian Wilderness together. A toast to the Yoho’s and our unique slice of wilderness paradise in British Columbia’s Coast Mountains, had us smile and wonder what would come of our journalist’s experience with us out here.

This is looks to be as good as it gets. I’m going on this trip in late August with a good friend. My grandfather and uncle were pioneer climbers of the US Continental Divide back in the 1930’s and I’m starting to appreciate their love of the high country, pristine wilderness, and the beauty of our natural world when not tamed by man.
